When we opened for business, we pledged to provide prompt, high-quality heating, air conditioning and plumbing services at a fair price. We wanted to differentiate our business from others in the marketplace by operating with the highest level of professionalism, leveraging our knowledge of the latest available technologies, and acting on our strong commitment to the community.  We have now enhanced our services for customers and employees by joining forces as an independent owner and operator of three national brands. The Modern Mechanical owners you have come and know and respect, Shawn Mitchell and Pete Danielson, are still at the helm, report to work everyday in our Ashburn office and will remain in their respective positions – our leadership has not and will not change.

Together, the four brands will better serve our clients and provide the most comprehensive service plans available in the Northern Virginia area.

We are proud to be an EnergyStar Retail partner, and a Loudoun County Certified Green business. We were recently awarded the Patricia Trammell Award for Excellence for our Green Initiatives by the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce.  We responsibly dispose of all recyclable materials and hazardous waste. Shawn Mitchell

Shawn Mitchell

Shawn Mitchell grew up in Southwest Virginia working first for his uncle’s HVAC company and them his father’s mechanical contracting company. Shawn obtained his Universal CFC certification at the age of 16. He enlisted in the US Army and attended Virginia Tech. During that time he was deployed to Bosnia and Iraq. In 2004, Shawn was awarded the 276th Engineer Battalion Soldier of the Year. During college and his many deployments, Shawn also continued to work at a local mechanical contractor in Reston Virginia. He worked his way up from Installer to Service Technician to Service Manger then Assistant Vice President to finally Vice President of HVAC Operations before deciding to launch Modern Mechanical at the age of 29.

Shawn wanted to be a contractor that wasn’t a contractor. Why can’t you have the same buying experience of buying a new heating and air conditioning system as you do buying a luxury car. The foundation of Modern’s culture is the upmost professionalism, highest level of quality products, and the strongest commitment to stand behind our work. Since starting Modern Mechanical, Shawn has been recognized as a Loudoun County top 40 under 40, Loudoun Chamber Entrepreneur of the Year, Gubernatorial appointment to the VA Board of Contractors, Virginia Plumbing Mechanical Professionals of Virginia State Board, Rotary Club President, Rotary District Lt Governor, Rotarian of the Year, and ACHR News top 40 under 40 in HVAC in North America. Shawn also serves on the Loudoun Regional Advisory Board for John Marshall Bank, Dulles Area Association of Realtors Board of Directors, Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and the Rotary Club of Ashburn Board of Directors.

Pete Danielson

Pete Danielson grew up in southern California where he spent his time free time surfing and skateboarding. He moved to Northern Virginia in 1988 and began his career in the heating and cooling industry working for a very large distributor. “I worked my up through the ranks, starting in the warehouse, then to inside sales and then management.” In 1991 Pete earned the President’s award for the top performer in the company, he went on the earn the award 4 more time in the next 5 years. In 1996 Pete moved into the sales team where he lead the Northeast region in sales growth and volume. Pete made the move to manufacturing by joining Lennox Industries in 2007. Lennox is one of the highest quality, most innovative brands in the country and perhaps the entire world.

My time with Lennox was some of the most rewarding, educational and fulfilling times of my life.” In 2009 Pete was the #1 territory manager in the United States, where he lead the nation in sales growth and new customer acquisition. I met Shawn during my time with Lennox and we developed a strong partnership working together to grow sales and build the business for both companies. In 2013 Pete purchased ownership in Modern Mechanical and now he and Shawn have joined forces to take Modern to a new level of success. “Our two distinct skills sets really complement each other beautifully, where one of us may be weak in experiences the other has a strong background of knowledge and experiences. It has been a great blend of two people knowing where their strengths are and to leverage that to make the company better.”
